Trolltunga is one of the most spectacular scenic cliffs in Norway. Trolltunga is situated about 1100 meters above sea level, hovering at 700 metres above lake Ringedalsvatnet.

SEASON

  • The hike is usually possible to do from mid-June until mid-September
  • Depending on snow and weather conditions, the season will vary from year to year
  • 06 – 15.09 Recommended season (an average year)
  • 09 – 15.10 Recommended with guide
  • 10 – 18.03 NOT recommended, highly dangerous
  • 03 – 14.06 Recommended with guide (snowshoes/ski’s)

THINGS TO BRING ON THE HIKE

You will need sturdy hiking boots, bring warm clothing and be prepared for rain weather. Bring a map, headlight, plenty of high-energy food to eat and drink, and a simple first aid kit. Weather in the mountains can change very fast – check the latest weather forecast before going to Trolltunga by the reception. Do not hike to Trolltunga in jeans, sports shoes. It is always colder in the mountains than down by the fjord.

Respect the nature. Remember, not to leave any garbage in the mountains.

ABOUT HIKING TO TROLLTUNGA

  • It is a long and demanding hike
  • Start early in the morning. We recommend starting at the latest 10am
  • The trail starts in Skjeggedal, 7 km from Tyssedal
  • The trail goes through high, mountain terrain, it takes a total of
    8-12 hours (23 km in total) and the ascent is about 900 meters
  • Think twice to hike to Trolltunga in heavy rain or in foggy weather
  • It is always colder in the mountains than down by the fjord
  • Bring a tent if you want to stay overnight.
